Prepare For the Warhammer 40,000: Leviathan Pre-order This Saturday With Free Datasheets
Still playing catchup with two big projects finally in the bag, I'm trying my best to stay up to date at least with WarCom's stuff. Yesterday, they dropped the full Datasheets for Leviathan. Let's take a look and see what we can find, starting with the Space Marines.
CAPTAIN IN TERMINATOR ARMOUR
We got a partial look at this datasheet before, comparing it to the one that will release for the Space Marine Combat Patrol. We can now see his equipment options and what units he can lead. I'm not going to break into every units wargear unless something jumps out at me. But for units, he can lead basic, Relic, or Assault Terminators. Looks like the more specialized a character, the more restricted their ability to Lead will be.
LIBRARIAN IN TERMINATOR ARMOUR
Another Datasheet we've seen. Actually, which ones haven't we seen for this half of the box? I think the new Phobos Lieutenant might be it. Either way, we now get to see equipment options. Interestingly here, it looks like you don't have to take a gun if you don't want to. So if you want to just smite away, you can do it, possibly saving a few points. He has the same restrictions for Leading as the Captain. Since the box only comes with one unit of Terminators, you'll have to pick between the two.
INFERNUS SQUAD
No real options or surprises here, though we now get a little blurb for them.
STERNGUARD VETERAN SQUAD
Ah! Here's one we haven't seen yet! No surprises on that profile, but their bolt weapons come with DEVASTATING WOUNDS for some extra punch. It's special ability is Shooting again when you destroy their target. So that's pretty impressive! You'll want to use this unit to finish off damaged enemies so they can get more shots off. It's only once per battle, though.
BALLISTUS DREADNOUGHT
Another that was already revealed, this new dreadnought doesn't come with any weapon options. I wonder if this will change when the official kit comes out.
TERMINATOR SQUAD
One of our first reveals, beat only by the Termagants I think. This version of the datasheet only allows one model per five to trade out their storm bolter for a Terminator heavy weapon.
LIEUTENANT WITH COMBI-WEAPON
Odd that this is how they're differentiating this unit. I would have expected it to be Lieutenant in Phobos Armour. Either way he only has the one weapon loadout. His combat blades are specifically ANTI-TYRANIDS, so I wonder if this is meant to be a character just for this set. He's absolutely stacked for Abilities, with FNP 5+, Infiltrators, Lone Operative, and Stealth. His first special rule is to pick out an Objective and give friendly units re-roll 1s to Wound when attacking targets on that Objective. Good way to get an advantage on the most heavily contested Objective of a mission. He also gets a once per turn ability to make a normal move when an enemy unit ends a Move nearby. Finally, for one last surprise, this unit cannot be your Warlord. This again feels more like a narrative unit than a normal matched play unit.
APOTHECARY BIOLOGIS
With his Gravis Armour, this is a pretty tough Datasheet. His pistol also packs a little extra punch too. His special abilities are that he grants LETHAL HITS to the unit he Leads and that he goes up to OC 9 if his unit destroys an enemy unit in melee. As a Gravis character, he can lead Aggressors, Eradicators, and Heavy Intercessors. He also gets a special ability to join a unit lead by a Captain or Chapter Master. However, none of these are in Leviathan, which means he's going to be on his lonesome if you're fighting with just the box contents.
FINAL THOUGHTS
No real surprises here, honestly. As I said, most of these had already been revealed. By far our most underwhelming model is that Biologis. While potentially good, you need another set of Gravis miniatures for him to really shine. If any Gravis units have a way to get re-roll Hits (outside of Oath of Moment), he'll be fantastic. The new Lieutenant is honestly the show stealer for me. He practically screams unique character, and makes for a great way to provide a mobile buff to your force if you know how to use him.
