I'm almost caught up! Because I'm trying to avoid spoilers, I'm currently sifting through the Kansas City Open. But fortunately, GW is going easy on announcements. That being said, they haven't been silent.
Discover the Exotic and Dangerous Wildlife of Oghram
Oh fun! It's another one of these, this time in the style of a nature documentary. I'm not gonna do a blow by blow, just a quick watch and response.
Canon heron, foxes, deer, and pumas on Oghram?
This was short and amusing. Some of these might have been better looks at Tyranids than in the CG trailer, if in grainy black and white.
Sunday Preview - Leviathan Approaches
As suspected, 10th Edition will go up for pre-order this weekend. Need to make sure I'm there, bright and early.
But there is something a bit fail though. It seems GW has picked up some bad habits from the digital side of the Games Industry. GW has done pre-order bonuses before, but now you get different pre-order bonuses depending on how you do it.
Honestly, this isn't a big deal. It feels a bit more like a bone thrown to independent stores. If you pre-order on the GW webstore, you'll get a pair of game boards large enough to play Combat Patrol on. If you buy it on launch day at a Warhammer Store, and I'm betting pre-order it through one, you'll get some shiny looking acrylic objective markers and tokens.
But if you don't have a local Warhammer Store nearby and don't manage to get one online, your LGS will have some deployment markers and dice trays. Gotta say, the dice tray feels kinda creepy-cool with that terminator eye just staring like that. Thought it was some weird photoshop thing when I first saw it!
There will, of course, be limited edition books available too. I haven't decided if the Tyranid fanboy in me needs to get one.
Okay this is kind of fun! Like many previous editions, GW is holding a global campaign that will have a minor effect on the overall story. We get to basically use our Leviathan sets to determine whether the Ultramarines or Tyranids win the battle for Oghram.
But they've added a twist this time! Whoever wins will get their new miniatures revealed early. Additionally, if you participate you get a chance to win every new Tyranid or Space Marine miniature this year.
They are really going all out on this. Those webstore servers better be ready!
We get a little deployment map showing some of the forces, including the mighty Phalanx, deployed in defense of the system. But the details are still pretty vague. We'll need to wait for the book to likely see what this all means.
Painting Leviathan - How 'Eavy Metal Tackled the New Tyranids and Space Marines
Not gonna go into too much detail here, as I find most painting discussions better in a more visual medium. But they do list all the paints they used. We also get a look at our new termagants in various Hive Fleet color schemes, including some new/returning Hive Fleets!
Although I guess I'm a fake Tyranid fan. I was pretty sure Hive Fleet Typhon was in the lore, but I can't find it. Hive Fleet Lotan however is. I'm pretty sure Hive Fleet Cetu is brand new.
Watch the Heroes of Leviathan Clash and Discover the Truth Behind Neave Blacktalon on Warhammer+
We're getting another 10th Edition Battle Report of GW's streaming service. I haven't watched it yet. Guess I have to add it to my list of things to catch up on.
Reference Your Rules in Seconds With the New-Look Warhammer 40,000 Datasheets
Reference cards are awesome! They make so many aspects of the game easier. Even if you're not buying these, I highly recommend printing out your datasheets if you can.
But the big news in this article is that it looks like we'll start getting our Datasheets next week. They've already clarified they're not dumping them all at once, so I'll get to review them the same way I did the faction focuses. However, I might still end up falling behind depending on the release cadence. It took four weeks to do all the Faction Focuses for the game, and the preorder period for Leviathan is two weeks. So they might release 2 per day.
I also almost got spoiled by Auspex Tactics today! There's actually a couple of reveals on this page that I skimmed over the first time.
The first is the full Army Rules sheet for Space Marines. The big one on the Army Rules sheet is that Space Marines units may have their Chapter in their Faction Keywords. This will be how you make sure you don't have multiple characters from multiple factions in matched play. Note that on his Datasheet, Gabriel Seth is Blood Angels. So it looks like you can legally play combined Chapter and Successors forces, such as what happened at Baal or when the Unforgiven work together.
The second reveal here is the Datasheet for the Primaris Captain. While there aren't any real surprises here, his rules confirm something we've been suspecting. Different versions of the same unit can have different rules. So while he shares Rites of Battle with the Terminator Captain, he trades out The Imperium's Sword for Finest Hour. This once per battle ability increases his melee Attacks by 3 and gives him DEVASTATING WOUNDS.
And with that, I'm caught up on current releases and news. Now I've just got the rest of KC to browse through and a Battle Report to watch.
